Venezuelan markets have rallied in recent days on the back of renewed speculation that the President, Hugo Chavez, will not be able to stand in October’s elections. A victory for the Opposition’s Henrique Capriles Radonski would brighten the economic outlook considerably. But the challenges that face the next regime are both large and complex and are unlikely to be met with a drop in near-term growth.
