Fed stands pat amid election uncertainty

With the markets still relatively calm amid the ongoing election uncertainty, the Fed took the predictable decision to stand pat today. However, if the election results in a divided government – as now looks likely – that will reduce the odds of any large-scale fiscal stimulus, which would put the pressure back on the Fed to support the recovery via an expansion of its large-scale asset purchases.
