One of the biggest challenges facing South Korea’s newly elected president, Moon Jae-in, is the country’s dreadful demographic outlook. Although there are steps the new government could take to boost fertility rates and encourage more women into the labour force, a sharp decline in the working age population over the next decade will be hard to avoid. This will act as a major constraint on growth.
