Our Asia Economics Chart Pack has been updated with the latest data and our analysis of recent developments.
Most economies in Asia look set to record solid growth this year, helped by very strong demand for AI-related products, which is boosting exports and helping to offset the drag from high energy prices. Many central banks have raised interest rates in response to the jump in energy prices, and the outlook for monetary policy remains dependent on developments in the Middle East. Based on our assumption that oil prices settle at around US$75 per barrel by year-end, we expect further rate hikes in a few economies, notably Korea and India, while a number of countries, including Thailand, Malaysia and Taiwan, are likely to leave rates unchanged for the rest of the year.
