A long way from recovery

The detrimental impact of the earthquake and tsunami in March was sufficient to tip Japan into recession in the first quarter. Early evidence for the start of the second quarter shows no sign of a meaningful recovery, supporting our view that GDP will fall further than generally anticipated in the first half of the year.
