Brighter outlook for 2014?

The world economy ended last year on a strong note, led by an upturn in manufacturing output in advanced economies. The pick-up in activity is feeding through to labour markets in many countries, notably the US and UK, in both of which the unemployment rate is falling rapidly towards central bank thresholds. Unemployment may also be past the peak in the euro-zone.
