Financial meltdown averted but outlook still grim (Q4 08)

The financial crisis has proved to be even worse than we had feared. The bank recapitalisation plans and other measures announced in recent days should avert a complete meltdown. Nonetheless, the financial and economic imbalances have taken years to build up and may take just as long to unwind.
