Lack of affordable homes for sale hits first-time buyers

House price growth is at a three-year high but, given how tight market conditions are, experience suggests they should be rising even faster. Cautious home appraisals and tight credit conditions are helping keep a lid on house prices, as is the fact that the supply of new homes is relatively healthy. But the available new homes are expensive, and first-time buyers are dropping back.
