Durable Goods (Aug.)

Headline durable goods orders rebounded partially in August, but the bigger news was the strong increases in non-defence capital goods orders and shipments. The latter suggests that business equipment investment is set for another big gain in the third quarter. Hurricane Harvey, which hit in the last few days of August, does not appear to have had a major impact on the figures.
