Housing market treading water

With both mortgage lending falling and house price growth decelerating, the latest data suggest that the housing market is treading water. Looking ahead, a solid economic backdrop and resilient house price expectations mean that a correction is unlikely this year. Yet, with house prices already so high, the market will also struggle to pick up again. As a result, we expect house price growth to slow further, while activity will rise only gently.
