Nickel market to tighten, but will that be enough?

The prospect of reduced mine supply from the Philippines was a key driver of the rally in nickel prices in the second half of 2016. However, the price of nickel still underperformed its base metal peers and it fell back sharply in the final weeks of last year. In this Metals Watch, we examine the reasons for nickel’s relatively poor performance to date and discuss whether the fundamentals point to price gains from here.
