Can the party continue?

Election fever has gripped Indian financial markets this week, with equities and the rupee rallying as it became increasingly clear that Prime Minister Modi’s BJP would secure another resounding victory in the Lok Sabha. Markets continued to rally for several months after Mr Modi’s election win in 2014, which similarly was more emphatic than most had expected. But the domestic and global economic backdrop is far less supportive this time around.
