Time to switch to a producer price index

A recent study from a government-appointed working group has reignited the debate over whether India should switch to a producer price index (PPI) to measure inflation at the early stages of the supply chain, from its current use of a wholesale price measure. We think that a PPI measure would help to alleviate many of the shortcomings of the WPI series and enable easier comparisons with other economies.
