What will 2018 bring for EM local currency bonds?

Despite the prospect of more monetary tightening in the US than investors are anticipating next year, we think that local factors will have more of a bearing on monetary policy in emerging markets (EMs) then. Reflecting this, we would not be surprised to see local currency bond yields in some major EMs fall in 2018, even though we expect US Treasury yields to rise.
