Bank of Canada faces mounting downside risks

The escalation of the US-China trade war suggests the Bank of Canada will once again have to mark down its forecasts for GDP growth. Given that policymakers already think it will take several years for the economy to return to its full capacity, this increases the chance that the Bank will present a dovish message at its meeting next month and cuts interest rates this year.
