Consumer Prices (Aug.)

After edging down to 1.9% in August, headline inflation looks set to decline by another couple of percentage points in the next few months. Admittedly, base effects will push inflation back towards 2% for a few months around the turn of the year but, as economic growth slows further, we ultimately expect both headline inflation and core inflation to decline toward 1.5% in 2020.
