Exporters still stuck in low growth gear

The continuing sluggish performance by export-orientated manufacturers this year is another reason to believe that the Bank of Canada will reduce interest rates soon. In contrast to market expectations, we think that the odds of another rate cut within the next 12 months have risen this year, especially considering the added uncertainty for Canadian businesses now that Donald Trump’s election victory has raised the threat of US trade protectionism.
