South Africa in recession, Focac summit, Kenya fuel costs

Figures released this week showed that South Africa’s economy performed even worse than we’d thought in Q2. Headline growth will probably recover in the second half of the year, but we’ve downgraded our full-year forecast from 1.3% to 0.8%. Elsewhere, African leaders gathered in Beijing for the largest-ever summit on China-Africa relations. While the meeting made headlines, we doubt that it will change much on the ground.
