Stamp duty cliff edge will lead to 44,000 fewer new homes built as developers stall construction

Andrew Wishart, of Capital Economics, said: “The main driver of housing construction is how quickly housebuilders can sell homes at prevailing market prices. The slump in buyer demand and transactions we expect after the stamp duty holiday is likely to mean that housebuilders remain conservative.”
