Halifax House Prices (Apr.)

A renewed surge in house prices following the extension of the stamp duty holiday drove annual growth in the Halifax house price index up to a five-year high in April. Demand remains very strong, so house prices are likely to record further gains over the next couple of months. And with the economy set to recover quickly and interest rates expected to remain low, we think that this boom in prices will be followed by a slowdown, not a bust.
