Falling profits, fiscal stimulus inflation

The fiscal stimulus package announced this week is unlikely to lift growth meaningfully as most of the spending will merely offset the impact of previous stimulus measures unwinding. And with corporate profits falling, the recent strength in capital spending will probably come to an end soon. The upshot is that GDP is still likely to shrink in 2020.
