Restrictions may not derail Bank’s tightening plans

The closure of many high-contact services in Quebec yesterday is likely to soon be matched by tighter coronavirus restrictions elsewhere. That said, if other provinces also allow stores and restaurants to stay open, then the hit to GDP will be smaller than during previous waves. And with the Bank of Canada now more focused on inflation, we still think there is a decent chance it will hike in the second quarter.
