Will falling inflation come to the rescue?

A major constraint on economic growth last year – high inflation – now looks set to ease. However, this boost will not prevent household spending from falling again in 2012. Thankfully, near-zero inflation should foster a recovery in spending in 2013, pulling the economy out of recession. But overall, the boost is likely to only partly offset the damage to the economy from the euro-zone crisis.
