Brazilian growth remains two-speed

It is tempting to attribute the stagnation in Brazilian retail sales in December to recent efforts to curb credit growth but in truth the impact of these measures is unlikely to show up in the data until later this quarter. Instead, the bigger picture is that retail sales actually expanded by 1.5% q/q in Q4 as a whole. With the industrial sector still stuck in a rut, Brazilian growth remains lopsided.
