Worst over but recovery still fragile

The economy weakened further at the start of the second quarter, although signs abound that a pick-up is just around the corner. Businesses are restoring production more quickly than was expected even if not soon enough to show in April’s official data. A V-shaped recovery is therefore looking likely from the latter part of Q2. Nonetheless, consumer confidence remains low and much still depends on global demand.
