Crunch time, again

Aware of what is at stake and under the watchful glare of the world, euro-zone policymakers might finally put their differences aside and produce the goods at the forthcoming EC council meetings and G20 summit. But past experience does not bode well. And even if the plan does live up to expectations, it is unlikely to address the root causes of the euro-zone’s problems – major economic imbalances across the region and a fundamental lack of competitiveness in the peripheral and Southern economies. In short, we doubt the crisis ends here.
