Hungary’s budget black hole filled only temporarily

The Hungarian government yesterday afternoon announced measures to raise an extra HUF 100bn in revenues as lower than expected growth reduced the chances of meeting the budget target. The government also announced more cautious growth forecasts on which the budget is based. This should improve the government’s credibility as well as the near-term fiscal position. Nevertheless, we remain concerned about Hungary’s medium-term fiscal outlook.
