Taiwan targets closer ties with China

A so-called Economic Co-operation Framework Agreement (ECFA) was approved yesterday between Taiwan and China. The deal should increase trade and for Taiwan there are two major implications. Firstly, Taiwan will no longer be marginalised as free trade pacts proliferate across Asia. Second, the ECFA should help to lift productivity in services, which is key to Taiwan's long run development.
